Sliding Door Lock Jammed Shut

The mechanics of the lock have broken leaving the top section of the door completely. Most sliding doors have a mechanism called an adjusting screw located at the bottom of the door ends. Check the alignment of the deadbolt against the strike on the jamb if the lock is difficult to turn when the door is closed or the door doesn t lock at all. Use a file to widen the hole on the strike or remove the strike with a screwdriver and reposition it on the jamb.

Remove the cover or faceplate. Give the screw a clockwise turn and test to see whether the door slides easier. Sharply tug the extractor away from the lock to remove the key. Soak your door lock in kerosene for 24 hours if it isn t attached to a door and has been rusted shut.

Turning this screw raises or lowers the roller. You can buy a whole new door lock latch assembly pretty cheap and they re easy to replace. In this video i attempt to open a patio door that has got stuck locked. If the door becomes even harder to open turn the screw in the opposite direction.
